ALT LED Lights Illuminate Australian School, Winning the Australia Timber Design Award 2013-12-11
Renowned Australian sustainable architecture master Paul Haar, whose works have consistently garnered international acclaim, recently saw his design for an Australian school library win the prestigious Australia Timber Design Award. The Candlebark School Library, nestled in the Macedon Ranges of Australia, seamlessly integrates with the surrounding landscape.
Paul Haar's architectural philosophy emphasizes harmony with natural landscapes, respect for local culture, and a revival of traditional community housing styles. Known for his work inspired by the architecture of Northern Australia's Indigenous communities, Haar advocates for modern sustainable architecture to utilize natural protection and materials provided by the environment. Consequently, the Candlebark School Library is built to blend with the terrain, using locally sourced materials that adhere to eco-friendly and energy-saving principles, minimizing environmental impact. Haar’s design ideals align perfectly with ALT’s motto: “Demanding Perfection, Achieving Sustainability,” making ALT’s high-tech, eco-friendly products an ideal choice for Australia’s environmentally conscious communities.
For the Candlebark School Library, Paul Haar selected the BR40 spotlight from Taiwan’s leading lighting manufacturer, ALT. This LED light features ALT’s patented aluminum heat-sink fin structure, which efficiently dissipates excess heat, enhancing LED stability while departing from the traditional, rigid design of conventional BR40 lights. The minimalist and elegant design of the ALTLED® BR40 makes it visually appealing even without additional fixtures. Its smooth, rounded lines and non-toxic, eco-friendly materials align perfectly with Candlebark’s emphasis on natural harmony and environmental values.
The BR40 operates at 35 watts, emits a natural white light (4000K), and incorporates Bridgelux® chips for high luminous efficiency and stability. Additionally, its isolated power supply ensures safety, a critical factor in a predominantly wooden building.
James Liang, CEO of ALT, expressed his pride in the ALTLED® product contributing to the Candlebark School Library’s win of the Australia Timber Design Award:
“This recognition embodies the very direction ALTLED® strives for—spreading the concept of environmentally conscious design.”
By integrating Bridgelux® chips with ALT’s technology, the product achieves a harmonious balance of functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. Suspended from the library’s ceiling, the ALTLED® BR40 lights resemble small suns, not only illuminating the children’s spaces but also providing sustained light that protects their eyes. ALT aims to continue delivering top-quality lighting products to customers worldwide.
